REHOBOAM, KING OF PRIDE AND CARNALITY
Dr. James J. S. Johnson
With home-life of “negative net worth”,
Naamah served Ammon’s idols from birth;
Like mother, like son,
Perversions did run;
Rehoboam’s sin corrupted the earth.
To be wise, he only pretended;
‘Gainst God’s laws he oft contended;
False-faced, he seemed bold,
Showing bronze, as if “gold”;
But with sin and shame his reign ended.
COMMENTARY: See 1st Kings chapters 11 & 12. See also 2nd Chronicles chapter 11. “And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.” (2nd Chronicles 12:1)
