WILLIAM TYNDALE, BIBLE TRANSLATOR AND PRAYING MARTYR

wm-tyndale-dvd-godsoutlaw

There was a man honest and young,
Whose work for plough-boys has been sung;
Though Tyndale was betrayed,
Before dying, he prayed,
For God’s Word, in the plain English tongue!

COMMENTARY:   See Colossians 4:3.  Master Tyndale’s dying prayer was, “Lord, open the king of England’s eyes!” — and God’s response, soon thereafter, was to providentially prompt the King of England to require that English-translation Bible copies be made publically available, at churches throughout all of England — and, by God’s grace, the English translation that was used was itself a revised version of Tyndale’s own Bible translation work!  See also “What a Difference a Day Makes”, posted at http://www.icr.org/article/4537 (citing Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, chapter 12).
